Wow.where do I even start? Ok, well, I know the area pretty well (as I grew up in Boone.and quite literally on 105 Bypass so yeah.I know the area.). Was in town for a quick trip and decided to pass by my old house to see what changes the new owners had made.

On my way out of town, my wife took a look at TA and suggested this place based on reviews. I was in the mood for good BBQ and didn't want to make the detour to Woodlands BBQ so figured we could just stop at this place and give it a go. From the exterior it looks very nice. I remember the place being a couple of different things (from a Blimpies and Greek place, to a couple of other small restaurants/stores).

They have gutted what is essentially 2 smaller restaurants to combine them into one actual restaurant (smart idea), and appointed it quite nicely. The wood theme and southern charm compliment the outside patio seating areas so it would definitely be a place where I would have taken back a few brews. However, the exterior is about the only nice thing I have to say about it. Service started out alright, the server was friendly and took our drink orders. Had a couple of sweet teas and then she brought out some ridiculously overfried (to the point of turning them mostly black) hushpuppies.

'Sweet' tea was also pretty flavorless.I'm in a BBQ restaurant.in the South.I expect my sweet tea to be properly Southern Sweet. This was not it. Ok, well, at least she took our order correctly. Went back then we waited. And waited.we waited over 30 minutes for 2 BBQ pork platters and a kids cheeseburger. Me and my wife have over 30 years of collective food service experience (she was front of house, I was back).

So if the place was busy, ok, I'll wait. But the place was not busy, yeah people were drinking quite a bit on the patio, but the inside dining had a ton of open tables, no waiting/etc. Plus ITS PORK BBQ, IT'S ALREADY COOKED. I've never had to wait this long for excellent BBQ regardless of where I was at.

During this time, our server came back exactly once, to tell us that our food should be next, she never refilled any of our drinks, anything. When the food finally came out by a runner, it was dry and completely overcooked. BBQ pork should be moist on the inside, this was not. The sides were laughable, you guys ever even heard of salt before? Yeah, you should probably use some considering how bland the sides were, your Brunswick stew was basically tomato juice with the dry pork thrown in and your corn was flavorless as well.

Also, they tout having 4-5 different sauces, but there were only 2 on the table, and when I wanted Eastern Style (vinegar based) sauce, I couldn't get any because, again, lack of service. To say I was disappointed would be a massive understatement.

Fast food BBQ warmed in a microwave from Appleby's would have been better than the slop I was served, and my server was non existent after the initial order. I don't mind paying 18-20% and more for service since me and my wife practically paid our way through college working for tips, but I expect to actually get service. I'm sorry your first visit here didn't live up to the five-star renown we've cultivated around Boone. Though it's disheartening you didn't find the service you received or your meal up-to-par, had you spoken up and let someone know, we would've gladly addressed everything from your sweet tea qualms to the condition of your BBQ. Hopefully, the next time you're nearby, you'll be kind enough to give us another shot again in the future - I'm confident your next experience here will be markedly different.
